Happy New Year Everyone!!Â
After a lot of indecision and what to do for NYE (and knowing Auckland was not the place to be) we ended up driving to Gisborne and splashing out on Rhythm & Vines tickets. R & V is played out at Waiohika Estate just out of Gisborne city on a vineyard. Although the weather wasn’t perfect we had a wicked time dancing until the wee hours of the morning and not getting to bed until 6:30am on Jan 1.
Along with 14,998 other (mainly younger) people we opted for the “special reserve” tickets (as these were the only ones left) and had special VIP seating when our weary bodies could take it no longer. I highly recommend it as a NYE venue and place to go, wicked music and fun times. Picks of the day in order were:
Crazy P (live) – fusing house, disco and jazz – great dancing tunes (formally called Crazy Penis but they shortened Penis to P)
Brazilbeat Sound System – The BBSS sound is a mash-up of dub, roots, funk, house, breaks & drum ‘n bass. They had one DJ spinning and a dude on drums and then more drums, felt like I was back in South America for a dancing session with the country that always knows how to have a good time.
Mylo & Dick Johnson played they usual DJ sets for all to dance to but think they didn’t get into as much as I would have liked but still good tunes!
